My apologies for a lack of anything since Tuesday, and the vote incentive not being updated yet. I'll get to that soon (I did it in my sketchbook, not digital. Hence why it's not up yet.. my sketchbook is big). I've just spent the last day and a half making a watercolor piece for the Student Competitive art show. Hope the judge likes children's illustration in the vein of Where the Wild Things Are. I've received nothing but compliments on it so far. Pictures of it will be up when I can get them. It's currently in the gallery, waiting to be judged.
Moreover, let's hope someone buys it! It's $150, frame included, for an illustration measuring 18x24. For a one of a kind, that's not really that bad. Hell, framing ran me over $60 as is, so really I'm mainly trying to get back my expenses.
My piece was not accepted into the student competitive. I suppose the (one) judge we had was not into children's illustration. I'm placing it in another show, however. The worst part, I suppose, was that as I walked with the painting from the gallery, two rather rude and likely empty-headed (as well as whorish) young women mocked me and my painting from their window. Were I not convinced that both will likely suffer from an incurable STD at some point, this would have bothered me more. In the end, I shrug off their criticism to the fact that a schoolteacher chased me down in the store to look at the piece and loved it. After all, her audience is the one I care about, not two future ladies of the night crowing from a window who also have no artistic background.
In summation, actual artists and my target audience enjoy my work and I put stock in their criticism. That earlier encounter was but an annoyance in what has been a long day.
I will take a picture of the work in question soon!
